Hip-hop on da net!!
It is essential to let people know about performers, music, artists, gigs and happenings out to the subculture. The Internet plays a key role; it has become a base where people of special interest can chat and share information.
…. Yes, like now. I’ve shared my thoughts and some information with you, and if you had a special interest, maybe you read it all too!?!?!

Levi & NERD!?
The street mags are especially important to get the local upcoming talents out there.
..When thinking about local hip-hop artists I will mention that I've read that Levi Kereama from Brisbane (the R&B and hip-hop icon from Idol) is going to USA to record together with NERD! That could be a big thing for the local and national hip-hop subculture!

True hip-hop!?
I think media has gained more respect for the hip-hop subculture, and it get a lot of coverage in the local magazines on (arguably) the same level with other subcultures. I believe, the coverage in street magazines, such as Scene and Time Off, is important because it gives information about upcoming artists and gigs within the subculture.
However, I will also mention that the coverage is heavily based on mainstream and commercialised hip-hop and some will argue that it is no longer “true hip-hop”.

Medias' Gangsters
The hip-hop subculture has met a lot of negative attitudes, and mass media have a history of posting the subculture as a subculture consisting only of gangsters and criminals. However, the 1990s was an important period for black popular culture and it has been said that mass-media coverage and broad based consumption made hip-hop expressions one of the most broadly known popular music of the late twentieth century.
Hip-hop subculture in Briz??
One question I find interesting and want to discuss is: Does it exist a real hip-hop subculture in Brisbane? I think it is exiting to look at the creation of the subculture, from it first started in the Bronx in NY in the early 70s and till it adapted to Australia, and Brisbane.
A hip to the hop description!
Before I discuss anything about the hip-hop subculture, I want to post the description of hip-hop subculture made by Tricia Rose, one of the foremost scholars to address the hip-hop culture. She says that hip-hop subculture consists of three modes of expression, which are rap music, graffiti writing and break dancing. So now u know!
It's time for an update!
Okay, I know that I’ve been more like a fish on a bicycle rather than a duck to water when it comes to blogging. But now it’s time for a little (or huge!?) update at my lovely blog… And it is off course hip-hop in focus, and I’ll take a closer look at the subculture on a global and local level!!

Hip to the hop!
I did my last assignment on Hip Hop in Australia and I think I'll look at hip hop subculture in relation to new media for my next assignment. I haven't really worked out my reseach question yet..
However, for people doing their assignment on hip hop, it would be a good idea to check out the video 'Rap, race & equality' by Stephen and Grant Elliott. They discuss hip hop in relation to media and the battle for equality..
